€3,000 Scrappage
In addition to the Government Scrappage of €1,500 recently announced you can now also avail of an additional €1,500 on the following 2010 Opel models:
- 2010 Opel Astra
- 2010 Opel Corsa
- 2010 Opel Insignia
- 2010 Opel Meriva
- 2010 Opel Tigra
- 2010 Opel Zafira
- 2010 Opel Agila
The €3,000 Scrappage amount will only apply to the above models within Tax Band A and B.

Details on Scrappage Scheme:
The scrappage scheme provides for VRT relief when a new passenger car with CO2 emissions of not more than 140g/km (i.e. CO2 band A or B) is purchased and registered and another passenger car, over ten years old is scrapped. The scheme will run from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2010. The VRT relief available is up to €1,500.
The car being scrapped:
- must be registered in the State in the name of the registered owner of the
new car for at least 18 months previous to the date of scrappage;
- must be 10 years old or more from the date of first registration;
- must be scrapped on or after 10 December 2009;
- must be scrapped within 60 days of the date of the new car being -
registered, or have been scrapped within 60 days immediately before the
date of the new car being registered;
- must have a valid NCT test certificate, or one that has expired no more
than 90 days immediately before the date of scrappage or documentation to
indicate that it has been presented for and failed an NCT roadworthiness
test in the previous 6 months;
- must have been insured for use on the road for at least 12 months in the 18
months immediately prior to the date of scrappage.
